The Helmet Doctor

Dr. Joseph Cangas has been deemed ‘The Helmet Doctor’ by many of the kids he has fit for helmets.  He enjoys going to school, clubs, and groups of any size, to talk about bike helmets and helmet safety.  He started Helmets First! in 2004 when, as a pediatrician, he noticed many children not wearing helmets.  His initial plan was to talk to children at schools about wearing helmets, and the program has grown from there.  He gives away around 2,000 bicycle helmets to St. Louis area children each summer.
